A-membranes combine important properties: chemical robustness and variability in surface chemistry. These assets are difficult to find in alternative commercial products.  

Variability in affinity

A-membranes possess also the benefit of a flexible, tunable surface chemistry, creating wide variability in affinity. This variable affinity allows to tailor the membrane performance to the separation problem at hand, or to avoid strong membrane fouling. The affinity is created by the FunMem® organic surface modification technology (grafting). This innovative, proprietary technology creates unique, stable ceramic-carbon bonds, changing the surface chemistry in- and outside the membrane pores, and is fit for pores from 1 nm to 1 µm (from micropores to macropores), making it a versatile platform technology for nanofiltration, ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes.

Chemical robustness

A-membranes can rely on the extensive chemical robustness of the ceramic supports and the FunMem® technology: broad pH-stability, fit for all solvents without swelling effects, stable at high temperatures.  Unlike polymeric membranes, they can be mounted into modules independent of the stream to be treated (universal sealing). They do not show any leaching (no pore-fillers). After proper cleaning they can be stored dry before re-use.
